Fargo, ND

North Dakota Community Action Partnership is pleased to welcome Mr. Darryl Dahlheimer back to our state to offer the Four Cornerstones of Financial Literacy Training!  Four Cornerstones was written and developed by Mr. Dahlheimer; the curriculum was created for use by agencies that serve low-income individuals and families to teach economic empowerment skills and financial knowledge using a learning circle group method. Four Cornerstones is designed to build financial literacy, which means the ability to speak the language of and function well in the mainstream financial world of the United States.  Many low-income families are routed by default into a second tier of financial services, and the overall goal of financial literacy efforts is to help them escape this financial apartheid.

Four Cornerstones curriculum strives to build financial empowerment through four core areas of financial literacy:
1. Budgeting to Create Savings – budgeting that works, finding ways to save, and organizing bills
2. Debt Reduction and Asset Building – how to deal with each type of debt, dealing with collections, building assets
3. Building a Good Credit Rating – how to get one and read it, how to build good credit and improve bad credit
4. Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions – resources and rights, scams to avoid, dealing with financial institutions

When: December 1 from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. AND December 2 from 8:00 a.m. -  4:00 p.m.

About the Trainer: Darryl Dahlheimer is the Program Director at Lutheran Social Services Financial Counseling Service in Minneapolis, MN. He is a financial counselor who has performed financial assessments and provided financial counseling for more than 3,000 individual clients. He has conducted numerous statewide trainings on the Four Cornerstones of Financial Literacy curriculum.

NOTE: This is a two-day “train-the-trainer” workshop on the Four Cornerstones of Financial Literacy curriculum and the learning circle method, a technique that builds upon the life experiences of participants.  Training participants will learn the technical financial information included in the curriculum, and gain skills in facilitating training and group sessions for people with low incomes. Because training relies heavily on attendee participation and interactive exercises, participants must attend both training days.
